Low-Cost Home in Chile with Japanese Influences
The Chile based studio COMUNarquitectos completed the House MJ project in 2011. The design includes features from traditional and contemporary Japanese architecture.
This 1,560 square foot, low-cost home was built for a young family in San Manuel, Melipilla, Chile.
House MJ Description by COMUNarquitectos:
“The house is located in a 5000 square meter lot en the rural area of San Manuel, near Melipilla, on the way to Rapel Lake. The clients are a young couple with two children that have recently graduated from university where they studied Forestry.
The challenge was to design a low cost house that was both adaptable to the family’s needs and made use of the materials found in the area.
The project attempts to both blend with and assert an individual identity with its surroundings.
The roofing becomes the organizing element responding to the entrance of light and other outstanding features of the program.”
